Title: Disabled Welfare Assocaiton (DWA) Disability is not an hindrance

DWA's Educational Acitvities

Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) is a grass root level organizations, most of our members are from poor or lower middle class families. And most of these are illiterate. This is not their fault but negligence of the government and society.

For physically challenge persons, education opportunities are very rear, mainly because of inaccessible build environment and the attitude of the society. Neither the public transports are accessible for physically challenge person, nor build environments of schools. Therefore they cannot travel to school, nor do they feel comfort at school.

We are Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) are working on this issue, raising awareness about issues, such as assessable transport, ramps and accessible toilets in schools and all other build environments. But we know in Pakistan inclusive education still a dream.

The other main reason of illiteracy is poverty, poor families cannot afford to send their children to schools, specially if the children has any disability. On other hand these poor families like their children to start earn and help family to meet the daily needs. Therefore instead of going school, most of these children of poor families go to garages, hotels, factories or such place to work.

DWA’s office situated on M.A.Jinnah road near Saddar, we observe these children and adults working there every day. After consulting with DWA executive committee we decided to start basic literacy class in night for such persons. As DWA didn’t have any budget for such activity initially we start classes on street in front of our office. And we are looking for fund and appropriate premises for literacy and computer classes.

One interesting thing about our literacy classes is that our teachers are also are PWD! At this time we are offering Urdu, English, Math and Computer literacy classes for physically challenged persons, in night shift so they can join class after their working hours.

YOU CAN SUPPORT US!

As mentioned above we do not have any fund for our literacy classes, nor do we have sufficient equipments such as computers, furniture, class rooms. There fore we are desperately in need of support.

You can support us in many ways, by giving some generous donation for literacy classes, providing computers, furniture, or premises for classrooms. No support is little every drop count so if you cannot give huge donation do not hesitate to put a drop and believe your drop will make a sea.

Those, whose family cannot send them abroad for education, neither bring them imported accessible vehicle. Those, who are not allowed to enter in schools, because they crawl on the ground.
