Introduction - Special Sport
Sports and physically challenged persons!!! Usually it assumed sport is not for physically challenged persons as it's a physical activity. But many physically challenged proved that they can be a good player, even though they face trouble but they invented they own ways in sports.
Even though blind cricket team of Pakistan won world cup of blind cricket but still many people ask, how blind persons can play Cricket? Same way people think physically challenged persons can not take in physical activities. But once again we at DWA are on our way and soon the society will see how much active a physically challenged person can be, if given appropriate facilities.
There are bunch of new things coming soon in the filed of sports for physically challenged persons. But at this time we are taking out of the ground with flowing sports.
Famous Tricycle Race
President Mr. Javed Raise was arranging tricycle race since long by himself, in Layari. We also requested and struggle to include tricycle race in Lahore Marathon and Punjab Govt. first time include tricycle race in Lahore Marathon in 2007. And DWA won the first price of US$1000.
Wheelchair Race
As we mentioned most of our members are from poor families they can not afford wheelchairs, they crawl by hands on grounds. DWA was thinking to support some way, so they can have a better and decent life. In this situation Shafiq Bhai came to rescue and provided us many wheelchairs free of cost. Now DWA providing these wheelchairs to needy physically challenged persons and it please us to see them on wheelchair with happy and smiling face. There faces shine as they have got a new car.
Now as many of our members have wheelchairs and they are getting expert to use these wheelchairs, we are planning wheelchair race very soon. Now these members are also taking part in different walks for the cause, on their wheelchair.
Cricket
Cricket is famous game in Pakistan, and we the PWD too, love Cricket. You may know Blind cricket team won blind cricket world cup. We have arranged our Cricket team and we are on our wheels hoping to start arranging cricket tournaments for physically challenged persons, very soon.
If you are willing to sponsor such cricket tournaments, contact us any time, we shall be thankful to you for your support.
Badminton
Despite our legs are affected by polio we start playing Badminton on our wheelchairs. We do not have any court, we play in our gaily and hoping government or some generous company will support us to having our own play ground where we all the physically challenged persons get-together and play different games.
Basketball - Pattaya, Thailand
Pattaya international wheelchair sports invitation
Sindh Paralympics feel proud to announce that First time in the history of Pakistan, our 11 members' team of physically challenged persons on wheelchair participated in special basketball tournament, "Pattaya international wheelchair sports invitation 2"
from 22-25 August 2006, in Pattaya Thailand.
We not only played basketball matches and observer the facilities for special sports, we also enjoyed touring then and visited independent living center for special people. We appreciate the efforts of government of Thailand in providing such a great facilities to special people. And we believe that if our government provide us the similar facilities we have so many talented sport men who can prove their talent at international level.
Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) won the 1st price of wheelchair race in Lahore marathon and we believe that we could win, but due to lack of facilities such as special wheelchairs, and basketball court for practice we couldn't compete well at international level, at our first time. But we believe on our talent and eager to win next time.
In this regard we are requesting for support from government and other who can extend some support in this regards, such as providing us special wheelchair, a well developed basketball court and other facilities. We assure you if you support our team we can prove our talent and can become champion, at international level.
We also appreciate the efforts of Mr. S. M Nishat (president) and Mr. Javed Raees (General Secretary) of Sindh Paralympics, in establishing first wheelchair basketball team and providing them the opportunity to have international level experience.
