Mr. Liaqat is from Khairpur Mirs, he lost his both legs in train accident. After he lost his both legs he became idle and was feeling himself a burden on his family and society. But now after receiving his accessible bike from DWA, he is selling cold drinks and water bottles in front of a hospital, in day times, and in evening he go to '"sea view", a recreational beach, and do the same business there.

"It was not possible for me to do this business at two places without this special bike, because I cannot move without accessible transport", he said. Now he is not only sending money to his family in Khairpur Mirs but he is also actively taking part in DWA's activities for the welfare of disabled people. "Now my life is meaningful and I'll do whatever I can to makes others' life meaningful", he said with great joy.

Mr. Muhammad Saleem

Mr. Saleem S/O Farooq Baig is resident of korangi 3 ½ and his both legs are effected by polio. He has two brothers and 1 sister. He is working in card board company in packaging department. He salary is very low that is only Rs.2000 per month, he is engaged and she too is effected by polio. He is having a very difficult life and was looking for some opportunities, and he saw a light in shape of accessible bike that if he can buy can work as part time supplier and can increase his income can have some better life. DWA looked into his case and provided him an accessible bike on installment under our "mobility - self respect scheme". Federal Minister Mahmood Ali gave him bike key in one of DWA program. And we hope now he will be able to increase his income and live a better life.

Mr. Muhammad Irfan

Mr. Irfan's both legs effected with polio, he cannot stand on his feet at all. He is working gardener / Guard at city Zoo. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is willing to marry but according to him he cannot fulfill his responsibility as family man. He said I don't want to confined my wife and children at home because I can not bring them out, so I am interested to have accessible bike so I too can enjoy my life with my family and children.

We hope that now after receiving his accessible bike, Mr. Irfan will feel much ease, going to office and when he will marry he will live much better and happy life and his family will not feel confined in home due to his disability. And having accessible bike he probably have more chance to find his lady.

Mr. Muhammad Nasir

Mr. Nasir is 28 year old and is jobless, he suffered from polio in childhood. He has 4 brothers and 2 sister, he live in Lines Area, in block and tin made home. His elder brother is married and live separately. His younger brother working, but he do not have any job, and is responsible for her mother who is sick and often need to see Dr. in hospital. He is hoping that after receiving his accessible bike he will supply children items to shops on his bike and he will be able to help her mother to drive hospital.

He said, "once I start earning myself, first thing I want to do is marry a nice lady. So far my proposals rejected because I do not have any job." We hope Mr. Nasir will able to live more happy and active life with his accessible bike.

Mr. Muhammad Zafar

Mr. Zafar is residence of Landhi Karachi, his both legs effected by polio. His father died 15yers ago and as he is the elder in his family he is responsible to take care of his 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He is working in the post off. And face difficulties daily going to his office. Besides this he has to arrange everything for marriage of her sisters, so he was looking for part time work too. But due to inaccessibility he was hopeless. After knowing about DWA project of accessible bike he reach to us seeking support. He said he can earn up to Rs.3000/- monthly as part time sale man. And he will also feel ease to go to office daily and save some amount from transportation expenses.

We realize he problem and believed that accessible really help him. And on 21st August we handed over him an accessible bike.

Mr. Alhindo Khan

Mr. Alhindo Khan is from Larkana. He has 12 members in the family, his parents are old. He has 6 brother and 4 sisters. His elder brothers work in Karachi, and he is responsible to look after the family members in larkana. He is doing cattle farming. City is 6 KM from his home and he feel difficulties in going place to place to collect money from the buyer, buy necessary things from city for his family and for his cattle farm. After receiving accessible bike he believe will be able to support and look after his family more easily and actively.

The opposition leader Mr. Nisar Khoro, appreciate the mobility project of DWA and said DWA is working in the right direction for the welfare of the disabled people. He said, "I myself attend DWA's programs and know they are working hard, may all the prayers are with DWA" he was speaking to the TV channels after handing over the motorbikes key to Mr. Hindo Khan.

Mr. Ghulam Akbar Channa

Mr. Ghulam Akbar Channa s/o late Adam Khan is from Mirpur Mathelo Ghotiki, a rural area of sindh. His one leg effected by polio. His two sisters and 3 nephews also effected by polio. He is Married and have two children. He is working in private bank and earning reasonable salary, but the problem was "mobility" so even though he have a good job, he couldn't enjoy his life at fullest. He heard about our "mobility - self respect scheme" and request us to provide him an accessible bike so he can manage his responsibilities with ease and live more active and enjoyable life.

DWA is expending its network in more and more rural area of sindh, to reach out the out our disabled community members there in small rural areas and help them to live a better and active lifr.

Father Pascal Robert was the chief guest on occasion of handing over the key to Mr. Ghulam Akbar Channa, He said, "Jawed Rais is a great person with lot of courage and confidence. He has not only change life for himself. He is supporting others too. God bless you and may you keep helping others in life."

Mr. Shahzad

Mr. Shahzad is member of a poor family, his mother died some time ago, he is from Shaikhupura - Punjab. He is effected by polio, despite his disability he come Karachi to earn some income for himself and for his family. He is motor mechanic and can fix motor and bikes, he is do his business on footpath near Regent Hotel, Shahrah-e-Faisal.

He build his own accessible bike, but that bike was not much comfortable, as he couldn't invest lot of money of his bike, in this situation we support him and we redesign his bike, itcost us Rs.15,000 but it give lot comfort and assure safe riding.

Mr. Riaz

Mr. Riaz S/O Jala ud Din is residence of Usmanabad, his parents are died long ago. He is effected by Polio but is very courageous person, he is working is dialer of veritable oil, flour, and rice. He carry heavy drums of oil and other items on his manual try cycle and carry these items to shops on very far distance.

He is one of the best candidate for our "mobility - self respect" scheme. So we offer him accessible motor bike, so he can live a better and easy life, and can mange his business with ease.

Mr. Anwer

Mr. Anwer is an old person he got injured in an accident and lost the bone of his kneel, Dr. operation and fitted steel bone, so he can walk with the help of crotches. He has 4 daughters and 3 sons, he is working in PSO's transport department as "Munshi". His home is in Lasbela, and office is in Kimari 10 kilometer far, he face difficulties riding in public bus to join his office, recently he slip and got facture.

He heard about our accessible bike so he come to us and request for accessible bike that can solve his transportation problem, we provided him the bike and we hope he will have a better, easy and more active life.

Mr. Lal Muhammad Baloch

He is from Mirpur Khas, and very active in disability movement, he is general secretary of Mirpur Khas Special Sport and Welfare Association (MSSWA). He suffered from polio and face similar problem of mobility as most of physically challenged persons do.

He sit on hunger strike for a whole month in front of Karachi Press club to demand jobs for disabled person,s and to protest against ignoring 2% quota of disabled people in government jobs.

As he is an active leader in disability movement, he often need to go one place to other for meetings, gathering information, for arrangement of programs and to attend different events. As he is not a rich person using taxi or rikswah was not an option for him, and riding inaccessible bus was risk for him. Concerning his leadership and work for disabled community and for his need to be more mobilize we offered him accessible bike under our mobility scheme (with easy installments).

Now after receiving his accessible bike he is very happy and more motivate to work more actively for community of disabled persons. Mr. Lal Muhammad said, "this scheme is really a great, I can't buy bike on lump sum or on installment with big interest. I thank you to Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) for providing me this wonderful opportunity to won a bike. In past I couldn't do lot of work because of transportation problem, not only this but I also faced lot trouble and feel unsafe in public transport. But having this accessible bike am I can do more work in less time, I feel independent can attend any program and go anywhere without looking for support form anyone else."

"I have no words to express my appreciations, wonder excitement for the efforts made by DWA. I salute all those who are responsible for such achievements." Mr.Amim writes in the guest book of DWA.

Mr. Hussain

Mr. Hussain lives in Bghdadi - Layari and is 54 year old. He also affected by polio and use crutches. He married in 2002, and has a son.

We was working as "munshi" with a firm on contract, last year his contract finished and he was wondering what to do. For almost a year he was living with no income. This situation was causing lot of problem in his life and hading a hard time to fulfill the daily needs of family. Somehow he heard about DWA so he contacted us he not only get accessible motor bikes but also happily became memer of PAD. Now he is using his specially accessible bike as Rikshawa in Clifton - Karachi.

He is thankful to DWA and world bank that bring a big change in his and his family life. "Now I can earning for myself and for my family easily." He said.

Mr. Saleem Khan, son of Mr. Nawab khan is also from a poor family, he is physically challenged since birth. He is married and has two daughters. He is doing job at hospital, but he had to use taxi or rikshaw as there is no accessible transport. Therefore a huge share of his income was going for transportation. But after receiving accessible rikshaw from DWA he not only start saving money from taxi / rikshaw fare but also start earning more income by running his rikshaw in evening

Mr. Muhammad Ali

Mr. Muhammad Ali, he is active member of DWA and in disability movement. He has some problem in his car and couldn't able to get fix and get bound he was looking for loan from bank but bank offer loan with big interest rate. So DWA helped him in this situation and provide some fund to get fix his accessible car. Now he is back to his work he carry school children on his card and charge monthly basis for each children this way he is earning some income and running his life independently. His wife is also a physically challenged lady and very active in disability movement

Mr. Zaheer Wali

Mr. Zaheer Wali Muhammad is from Rawalpindi and his both legs affected by Polio. He has 5 brothers and 1 sister. His elder brother also affected by polio. Mr. Zaheer works in Radio Pakistan Islamabad. He use tricycle to go to bus stop from home there he tie his tricycle with a poll with chain and ride bus to go to Islamabad. And in Islamabad he use wheelchair.

He is member of NOW - Rawalpindi, when he came to know about our special accessible bike and request one for himself. We accepted his request and assemble him a bike for him. And on 08th March 2007 Country Representative Mr. John Wall handed over the special bike key to Mr. Zaheer in a ceremony at National Institute of Special Education, where Mrs. Susan, president of STEP and other leader in disability movement were also presented.

Mr. Zaheer is happy that now he can move independently on his bike, he can go to office and no need to worry that some stole his tricycle from Rawalpindi bus stop where he used to tie his tricycle before riding the bus to Islamabad. He said, 'I am very happy now I not only can go to my office on my accessible bike but I also can help my family more than ever. Besides this I will be more active in disability movement with my organization NOW."

He thanked to World Bank and DWA for this wonderful opportunity that enhance his ability to move around independently and with ease. He said, "This project should be keep going on as there are so many physically challenged persons who need such accessible bike. DWA mobility project giving new means to our lives."

Mr. Abdul Manan

Mr. Abdul Manan affected by Polio and used two crotches and he is student of MSC in Quaid-e-Azam University - Islamabad. His rides public bus to go to university, that is 14Km away from his home. Just imagine a young man having crotches in both hands riding public bus in rush hours. We salute his courage that he still goes to university daily to educate himself, instead of sitting back. To cover his expenses he give tuitions to students. But he is not rich to import special car, in this situation DWA's special accessible bike was light in his hard life. He is member of STEP - Islamabad. He heard about our mobility project during World Bank finalist competition and later he observed our bike model in talent-exhibition Islamabad arranged by STEP. So he requested for one bike for himself. DWA accepted his requested and he was the 2nd beneficiary in the above mentioned ceremony in which Mr. John Wall handed over the key to Mr. Abdul Manan.

After receiving his special accessible bike he said, "Before life was hard, ever I had to go anywhere far from home I try to avoid, as riding public buses are not pleasant, and I couldn't afford Taxi fare. But now I can move around independently, my life will be more active and meaningful. I thanked to World Bank and DWA for such a wonderful project".

He further said that now he will be more active in disability movement with his organizations - STEP. Having this bike I am able to help not only myself and my family but I also can help my PWDs friends who do not have any accessible transport.

Mr. Sageer Ahmed

Mr. Sageer Ahmed, he too affected by Polio. He married since last 10 years. He lives in Rawalpindi and work as tailor. He is 40 years old and from poor family, he use crotches to walk around. Most of the time, he confined in his "home & shop" with her wife.

Members of NOW informed him about our project and as other physically challenged persons he to dreamt about moving independently and with ease. DWA accepted his application for special accessible bike and his dream come true when World Bank Representative Mr. John Wall, handed over the key of special accessible bike to Mr. Sageer in a ceremony at National Institute of Special Education.

Mr. Arshad

He is residence of Chakwal-Punjab. He born normal and has 4 brother and 2 sisters. His father is a farmer. At the age of 8 years he fall sick, and due to mistreatment, both of his legs became paralyzed. As he belongs to poor farmer family, he supposed to work on farm but he couldn't work at farm due to his disability.

His friend offered him support and suggested him that he can work in some shop in Karachi. Mr. Arshad agreed as he wanted to earn himself and also support his family. But when he came to Karachi his friend left him on road and not helped him in finding some work. Soon Mr. Arshad left with no money in hand. He had observed that there are many able body persons begging on roads, as he didn't have any money in hand nor any support he decided to start begging.

It was 1999 he start begging near Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) office near garden road, and in night he sleeps at same place on footpath. He used to earn Rs.300 to Rs.400 daily and some money to his family in Chakwal. He also got a tricycle.

DWA office is near PMA and we often join their programs, one day our team decided to talk with Mr. Arshad and we motivated him for working instead of begging. He wasn't a professional beggar just started begging due to his situation where he had left with no option. He agreed to stop begging in case DWA provide him some support.

We offered him work with DWA and we also offer him accommodation and education. And once he prove his ability we will help him for some work. He accepts our offer and start working at DWA in October 2006. He lives at DWA office, he is taking literacy classes in evening with our other members at DWA and learning good manners. He also plays Cricket on wheelchair. Now he living a life with dignity.

As we promised him to support for work after he proves his ability. So now we are providing him an accessible special bike, which he will use as "moving PAAN shop". At this occasion we are so happy and feel proud, that we bring a change in the life of Mr. Arshad. DWA once again prove that we are working for the most misfortune persons of the society, who are not only are poor but also have one or another type of disability. We feel proud that DWA is working at grassroots level for Persons with Disabilities.

Mr. Muhammad Hanif

Mr. Muhammad Hanif. His legs affected by polio. He is married and has 3 children, his wife is nurse and work in a hospital. He was working in ZOO car parking, to receive parking fee. His work place was 3 kilometer far from his home and he use wheelchair. He was earning Rs.100 per day and was living a hard life with his 3 growing children.

After receiving his special accessible motor bike (which he use a Rikshaw) he is earning Rs.600 - Rs700 daily, now his family and children are happy as now he not only earning good income but also able to bring his children and wife for outing on his accessible bike.

Mr. Hanif said, "Sure DWA bring a big change in my life, it not only make me able to earning sufficient income but it also give me a great ease in my life. Before I was using wheelchair on broken road with so many barriers, that made had to move around, but now am happy and my children faces are bright they too feel a big change in life after I receive my accessible bike".

He thanked to DWA and said, "I am so thankful to DWA team that visually a dream and make that reality". Now he is also promoting DWA cause of independent living and life with dignity.

Mr. Muhammad Younus is 47 year old, he works as tailor master. He is resident of Mahjir Camp. He is not only married but also has children and one of her daughter is also affected by polio. Mr. Younus use crutches. His problem was the same as of other physically challenged, persons. Difficulties riding public bus, behavior or transporter, low income that not allow to use taxi / rikshaw. His shop situated 10km away from his home so he was facing lot trouble. So the our specially designed accessible bike solved his problem.

"I pay thanks to DWA, DWA bring me a new life and relief my pain. May God blessed you." Said by Mr. Muhammad Younus.

Mr. Ghulam Asghar Mugal

Mr. Ghulam Asghar Mugal S/O Mr. Muhammad Alam Mughal hold double Master degree one in M.A. English and another M. A. Sindhi. His both legs affected by polio since childhood. He lives in Nawabshah and has four brothers and two sisters, and he is working as a teacher.

He has a tricycle to commute to his work and for other activates. he wrote his comments as follows;

"When I had a tricycle I was living very much passive life, but I feel after gaining this special motor bike, I am able to perform my duties with proper time and great energy, as well as I am doing social activities for disabled friends, and my other belonging people. Now, I am taking efforts for those, people who are helpless. I am running an English language academy, as well as paying my precious time in hospital for helping the patients to provide them blood free of cost. I teach some non-disabled students free of cost, to make them a good citizen for our society. I can perform my domestic duties with great care and taking pleasure."

Commenting on DWA "self-respect" scheme he said, "I met Mr. Javed Rais President, Disabled Welfare Assocaition at sanghar. He told me there, about his "self-respect" scheme. When I visited his office at Karachi, I felt great pleasure to see efforts and limitless hard work. "Self-respect" secheme is best scheme for disabled person all over in Pakistan. Disabled welfare Association is playing vital role with help of world bank, to make the disabled persons' lives comfortable. They are very much honorable people, who pay the ime in this project."

Mr. Inayatulla

Mr. Inayatullah had an accident 10 years ago in which one of his leg broke, now he use stick to walk, he is married but has no children. He has a stall of garments that he install here and there to earn some income for himself and for his family. He lives in Orangi Town though he is originally from Rahim Yar Khan.

"This special accessible bike will give me a great ease in moving around as public busses are so uncomfortable and dangerous for our lives, am much relaxed and happy receiving this accessible bike, and many thanks to DWA who provided me this on very easy installment with any big down payment and interest."

Mr. Kamran

Kamran S/O Nawab Baloch is Resident of Layrai gabul park.

He has two sisters a three brothers, he affected by polio in childhood, and also lost his left hand fingers in an accident. His mother works in few homes as house keeper to earn some income for her family. Kamran is eldest children despite his disability he wanted to help her mother and other siblings.

Being from very poor family he lives in very undeveloped area of layari where he do not have facilities to develop his abilities.

DWA provided him special accessible bike that he is using as Rikshaw, and earning Rs.100 daily.

"I am thankful to DWA as they bring me an opportunity to support my family, and it was my dream to earn some income and help my family despite of my disability. Now am living a better life and my family is also happy for me."

He loves to play cricket and sing songs, but since he joined DWA he is taking interested in his education, also, and studying regularly.

He has amazing control on his wheelchair and he plays different games on wheelchair.
